Folks think I haven't read Gil Thorp. I haven't read 64 years of the strip. But I have read Jack's stuff.
Jack Berrill created Gil Thorp. What I would give to figure out time travel and have a moment with him. It's wild to me that Berrill hasn't been recognized for creating such a long-lasting character. I'm going to try to change that.
How do I plan on getting an industry that routinely doesn't recognize cartoonists? I'm glad you asked.
The goal is to write a good story using the treasure chest I've been given. Gil is such a great character. That's why I devised Coach Luke Martinez. He's 100% based on Danny McBride from Vice Principles. It's on HBO MAX or whatever Discovery+ plans to do to the market's best streaming service. Why screw up a good thing? But what do I know.
I created Luke because he is everything Gil is not. He's arrogant. All he cares about is winning and being numero uno, baby. That's why Gil is the best Coach in this universe. It's not about winning, the chip, or the glory. It's about making an impact on these kids' lives.
To quote the Jack Nicholson Joker, "This town needs an enema!" Milford will get a showdown. This story begins and ends on July 11th. I can't wait for you to meet all the characters coming soon.
If you're digging what you're reading, please share. It's as simple as tweeting the link, sharing how much you hate this on Facebook, or posting on Reddit. Hell, I'll take Pillow Fort at this point. Just please for the love of God: SHARE!
SIGNINGS THIS WEEK!
I'm doing two signings to promote the release of my first DC work in Batman: Urban Legends #18. First I'll be at Brave New World from 10 a.m. to noon. Then I'll hop on the 101 to catch the 405 to sign at Hi De Ho Comics from 2-5 p.m. I hope to see you there.
I LOVE TO WATCH DA MOVIESH!
Go see NOPE. I went to City Walk with my roommate and friends last week—and I'm still thinking about it. If you can, check it out on IMAX. I can't wait to watch it again.
